Chicago Rain

I was shooting HDR sequences at Millineum Park in Chicago wishing it would actually start raining instead of just looking like it might. Right about then I heard a thunderclap. 30 seconds later, huddled under my umbrella I was framing my shot and watching the reflections start to appear. Once in a while, very rarely - things like this actually happen.

Your photography and attention to detail is awesome, I'm trying to learn so I can capture some Indiana beauty, I'm using photomatix and photoshop but it's rough going, do you use other programs that are better with color and help produce the effects you achieve? I know it's 28 years of experience and pure talent, any tips would help. Thanks!

I tend to mix in some of the individual bracketed shots into the tonemapped image in Photoshop. This is a great way to eliminate the tearing that appears when things move too much in a shot and Photomatix can't fix it. I also make color adjustments in Photoshop to every HDR image I create. The very act of tonemapping will reduce contrast so adjustments are usually really needed. Other than that make sure you are using a good steady tripod that is completely zero'd out. No chance for movement at all. Make sure you take enough shots to capture the entire dynamic range of the scene. Very often this will require more than 3 shots. Reduce noise prior to merging images to HDR. This will help you to create cleaner tonemapped images.
